Parent Education

Dr. Turrisi (Ph.D. Psychology, Professor of Biobehavioral Health at the Penn State Research Center) developed this handbook as a tool to help parents discuss good decision-making and choices surrounding alcohol use with their teens. This handbook is an evidence-based brief intervention designed to prevent underage drinking and alcohol-related consequences through communication between parent and teenager.

The booklet is sent to parents of all 1st year Elizabethtown College students. EACTC mails a “shorter” version, in pamphlet form, to all parents of 9th grade students attending Elizabethtown Area School District. The High School version is also available in the EAHS counseling office. Feedback from parents has been positive; parents attest it has been a valuable resource and especially helpful in initiating what might have otherwise been a difficult conversation.
